Today was an amazing day for me. My partner has been away in Scotland for a month performing at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival (he did really well by the way, getting 4-star reviews and an award nomination, which is incredible at a festival with more than 3000 shows!). This morning he arrived home in New Zealand after 36 hours of flying.
I took the morning off work so he and I could go out to lunch after his arrival. That little sleep-in meant that I woke with my phone buzzing. The reason? I have been named a mentee in this year’s Pitch Wars!
For those who aren’t familiar, Pitch Wars is a mentoring program for authors. Mentees are selected out of a staggering 2500-or-so submissions by established authors. These mentors then work with their chosen mentees on revisions for the next two months. At the end of the process there is an agent showcase, where literary agents can make requests based on a short pitch and first page sample.
This was my third year entering Pitch Wars, so being selected feels like an exciting step forward after all the work done over the past five years on my writing journey. I can’t wait to revise my manuscript with my mentor K.C. Held and connect with my fellow mentees. Here’s hoping that this hints at a future in publishing for my quirky wolf book.
